FAQ

How often do students attend?

During the school year students attend a minimum of two, one hour sessions weekly. In addition to the standard sessions, we also offer academic clinics during the summer months. These clinics are individualized, accelerated programmes that students attend five days per week for 1, 1.5 or 2 hours per day.

What makes your programmes such a success?

In addition to dedicated, knowledgeable teachers, one of the most important reasons why our programmes are so successful is that all tutorials are delivered on a one-to-one basis. This means that each student has their teacher’s undivided attention and can work at their own pace with a focus on mastery of facts. Accuracy, speed, and comprehension are very important with both math and reading. These key areas, which are monitored on a daily basis, provide information on improvement and areas of concern. Parents are given continuous verbal feedback on their child’s efforts.

How is Leeds Learning Centre different from other tutoring facilities?

Leeds Learning Centre is unique in that it provides one-to-one attention for both gifted and struggling students. We provide instruction using specific programme and teaching methodologies which are designed to fix the problems that students face in school. We also provide enrichment to challenge gifted students. Students are assigned their own teacher who works with them independently every lesson. An individualized programme addresses a child’s specific academic needs and allows our teachers to adjust the programme as students progress and succeed. Individual attention is not always available in an oversized class and students often fall through the cracks. Although we offer subject-based programmes, many of our students need to build a solid foundation in the basics before bringing in their work from school.

What does LLC offer?

A wide range of programmes are offered for elementary and secondary students. We are open year round and we have continuous intake into the programmes. For primary level students we offer Leeds Little Learners. This course is a combination of early math and reading skills that will start our younger students off on the right foot. Reading Mastery and Math Mastery are two programmes ideal for junior, intermediate, and senior elementary students. Most of our students in grades 3-6 are enrolled in a combination of those two programmes.

The reading and spelling programmes:

  1. Developmental Reading
  2. Corrective Reading
  3. Comprehension
  4. Spelling Mastery
  5. Morphographic Spelling

The math programmes:

  1. Addition
  2. Subtraction
  3. Multiplication
  4. Division
  5. Basic Fractions
  6. Fractions, Decimals and Percent

In addition to these core subjects, we also offer a variety of subject-based programmes such as Functions, Physics and Calculus as well as specialty programmes such as Write Away,┬áStudy Smart Start, and Becoming a Master Student. We offer an OSSLT prep course which introduces students to the tasks they will complete on the grade 10 literacy test. Academic Clinics in all courses during the summer allow parents flexible times to meet their vacation schedules. Leeds Little Learners is available either after school or during daytime hours on days opposite your child’s JK/SK school schedule.

We are also looking to expand in new areas. We are considering adding a full-day March Break and PD day programme. An after school homework assistance class provided on a drop in basis is also being developed. Clients who enrol in one-on-one tutoring will be able to access this service at a significantly reduced cost. Any parent is welcome to give us feedback to help us develop new programmes. Adult education in the above courses is also offered.
